Cuttings (April-May) Details 40 people are required to complete a Cuttings/Planting Programme. Pine tree cuttings are “taken” from mother plants using secateurs. These cuttings are “set” or planted in raised beds in an open ground nursery. Approximately, 4 million cuttings are planted each year at Rangiora Nursery. This job is suited to people that like working outdoors and enjoy a physical challenge.
Tree Lifting (June-mid September) Details 6 people are required to "lift" or pull up small pine trees at Rangiora Nursery. The trees are about 30cm in height and 1 year in age. Each year about 6 million pine tree seedlings and cuttings are lifted to order. This is a physically demanding job suited to people who enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Tree Grading (June-mid September) Details 10 people are required to grade small pine trees in a shed facility at Rangiora Nursery. The trees are graded to certain specifications and then tree roots are trimmed. The trees that need grading are 30cm in height and 1 year in age. Each year about 6 million pine tree seedlings and cuttings are processed. This job is suited to people that enjoy a physical challenge and like working with trees.
Tree Packing (June-mid September) Details 3 people are required to count and pack small pine trees in a shed facility at Rangiora Nursery. The trees that need counting and packing are about 30cm in height and 1 year in age. Each year about 6 million pine tree seedlings and cuttings are processed through the shed. This job is suited to people that enjoy a physical challenge and like working with trees.
Tree Pruning (February 2 weeks) Details 8 people are required to prune small pine trees. These trees are approximately 1m in height and are pruned using loppers. This job is suited to people that like working outdoors in the summer time and enjoy a physical challenge.
